Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight

Statue by Fred Torrey, 1935 and cast by Bernard Wiepper, 1974

State Capitol Complex, facing Kanawha Blvd directly in front of State Capitol

Fred Torrey created a model of the contemplative 16th President in 1935, inspired by the poem Lincoln Walks at Midnight by Vachel Lindsay. To celebrate the 111th birthday of the State of West Virginia, Bernard Wiepper enlarged the sculpture and cast the bronze in 1974.
